NFLPA is a bunch of Idiots

Yep, I’ve been away for a bit….that’s par for the course, especially when your schedule is loaded down with broadcasts for the last month.

The NFL Players Association’s member must have taken too many hits without a helmet.

Just before their deadline, the Association decertified, which means the owners essentially shut down the league for the time being. Although it sounds like “the time being” sounds more and more like “the whole frickin’ season.”

I think anyone who is anyone figured this would be coming. But instead of the normal lockout activities, the players seem to be in a war of attrition.

Consider the following….

1)      Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings calling the current labor situation “Modern Day Slavery”

2)      The Chargers’ Kevin Burnett calling NFL Commissioner Roger Goddell a “liar.”

3)      The NFLPA attempting to sabotage the upcoming NFL Draft by “encouraging” potential high draft picks not to go to the annual draft in New York…. Which is paid for by the NFL and aired on the NFL Network.

This is just plain stupid. And here’s why….

First of all, the proposed boycott of the NFL draft is simple pettiness by the NFLPA. This is tantamount to going on strike and encouraging job applicants not to go to a career fair. Besides, these guys haven’t even JOINED the NFLPA yet… why the hell should they have to be pressured into striking for you WHEN THEY HAVEN’T EVEN JOINED THE NFL YET!!!

Calling people names, especially when you’re trying to work with them, is just plain ridiculous. Want proof? Look at Congress the last 20 years.

I think Adrian Peterson is a brilliant and fantastic football player. But as a student of history, he’s an idiot. Peterson had a base salary of 10.5-million dollars last year…to play a GAME. That he has the CHOICE to play if he wants. And LEAVE if he wants, as well. A.P., go to a dictionary and look up the term “Slave”. I guaran-damn-tee you that there is NOTHING in that definition that includes a multi-million dollar contract to the enslaved. Here, let me offer this definition from Dictionary.com.

Slave /sleɪv/ Show Spelled [sleyv] Show IPA noun, verb, slaved, slav·ing.

–noun

1.

a person who is the property of and wholly subject to another; a bond servant.

If you want to leave to another league, you’re more than welcome to. You have a college degree or at least some college education—you can go into the real world and work if that’s your choice. But to compare your situation to people who suffered from inhumane conditions for almost 400 years in this country as well as the millions of people who are enslaved around the world is not only ignorant, but insulting.

And at the same time, why the hell are the players called “Labor”? Labor implies that they make something or provide a service that’s beneficial to society. If we didn’t have construction workers, teachers, and manufacturers, we’d go down the toilet fast as a country. I don’t think we’d be in that big of trouble if we didn’t have pro football players.

Finally, I’d like to close with a quote that my good friend Shawn Koch posted on my Facebook page.

Don’t insult the rest of us who work real jobs…YOU ARE NOT and WILL NEVER BE what we are called; labor! SERIOUSLY! Do my job for a week…wait no one day and live on my salary…you couldn’t do it sporto…And as little as I am paid I have never ONCE thought of myself as enslaved!

OH yes I forgot…my job actually serves a purpose! Your job is entertainment we can live without, because most of us can’t afford the inflated ticket and food prices!

Remember the 1995 Baseball season? It took them nearly 5 years to get back to respectability following their aborted season. You trash this season, don’t expect your fans to come back in droves. We’ll actually be doing more important things on Sundays… like spending time with our families,  cleaning the garage, and watching baseball.
